With only 1 day remaining until Rhiannon and I embark on our great adventure I thought I'd write a pre-trip entry to the blog, inspired by the mildly humerous, yet rather true, Orson Welles quote from the title. Apart from the absolute uncontainable excitement and anticipation for being in each place we're going, I have one overiding emotion about the actual getting there from the above selection, and it's not boredem. I am completely terrified of flying. Surely you're thinking why book a round the world trip when you're afraid of flying? Well, I took the 'book now, think later' approach, which I highly recommend. Too much thinking about flying and not enough thinking about places likethe one on the right (which happens to be one of our destinations...Fiji) and i'd never see anything of the world! So after drinks with some excellent friends, packing and re-packing a bag i'll no doubt want to throw out of the plane over the pacific ocean, a few tears and some intense last minute therapy from my seasoned traveller sister I'll be almost ready to depart. I don't think the magnitude of what we're about to do has sunk in, and i don't think it will until we're on the way to Heathrow tomorrow. Speaking of which, please spare a thought tomorrow, not for me, but for Rhiannon. She has got to deal with me not only on three different modes of transport, trains (where the liklihood of us missing it or being delayed is increased by about 46.8% purely because it's me), buses (pretty much the same as trains) and finally, a plane, for 12 hours. No escape, from palpatations, crying, maybe a little bit of travel sickness...maybe alot, endless talk of our impending doom or how we're definatley going to get DVT. Bet you're not so jealous now?
Anyway, this is our blog so we can let you know how we're doing and what we're up to, please leave us messages either on here or on facebook. It'll be so nice to hear from everyone and reply when we can! Thanks to everyone for any advice, good luck messages, presents, and farewell drinks! See you soon!!
Love,
Soph and Rhi

Have an awesome time Soph! Hopefully all the snow will have gone by the time you get here!
ReplyDeleteTake some Gravol (travel pills) it'll knock you out for 10 hours, but don't take it till you're in the air! Otherwise you might get delayed and you're passed out in the departure lounge!
See you in a few months!
